Yoga in the modern world & the search for an ‘authentic’ practice.
Thinking about my yoga journey and how it all started comparatively to how it’s progressed and where it is now - this topic became of a great apparent interest to me. Yoga as a practice in the modern world, how it all started, the multiple transformations and interpretations it’s undergone and where that leaves us today in its definition to the modern yogi.
Isn't it interesting how yoga has quickly gained such a widespread appeal in the modern world ? Since it’s early debut in the 20th century into Western consciousness its exponential, global growth is astounding. Let’s be honest, yoga is pretty amazing.
On introduction, the practice was defined to the West as:
"an antidote to the stresses of modern, urban, industrial life, and a way to reconnect with the spiritual world.”
I’m sure most of us that implement this mysterious practise into our lives would be able to fully relate to this, dependent on individual and unique experience of course. Perhaps the goal of introduction was achieved despite the reinventions and modifications.
So without going too much into what’s is right or not; traditional authenticity; cultural hybridity, countless disputes of classification and definition. This is platform to share personal experiences of a practice that cannot really be defined through intellectual faculty but rather through a metaphysical capacity: experience.
Looking forward to sharing articles, interviews, thoughts, and words here, random articles and love stories with all of you interested and excited to share your journey and hear about others about the discovery of an authentic practice.
